We are very proud to be able to work with a wide variety of athletes. Everyone from Olympic Gold Medalists to riders looking to buy their very first bike come through our studios. We think every rider benefits from a bike fit, but… we are obviously biased! So, we thought it would be helpful if you could hear directly from the cyclists we are lucky to work with, in their own words, about why they chose to get a fit from Cyclologic, and how it has impacted their riding. Bob W. - Chasing speed and dealing with injury
I’ve been a cyclist (almost exclusively road) since 1999. I took up the sport at that time because of a running injury (running was my previous addiction). I quickly found the bike to be an equalizer for big guys like me, so like many new roadies, I dove head first into amateur bike racing, loving every minute of it. By the mid-2000’s, age, family, and work stresses had definitely limited my competitiveness, but I still chased the dream of getting faster. Still do to this day.
Over the years, I’ve had several (at least 6) professional bike fits, and had learned enough about my body to be able to put myself in a good position on the bike. Still, in 2014, after participating in a three day, multi-state tour, I injured myself in the seat area, resulting in pain like I’d never experienced before. This was a persistent, chronic injury/heal/reinjury cycle that drastically limited my enjoyment and time spent on the bike. Anything more than a 20 mile ride was excruciating. I tried every remedy I could think of or could research, including probably $1000 worth of different saddles. Nothing made a difference.
After moving to Phoenix, I soon found Cyclologic, and recognized them as a fitting studio that already had a well-deserved reputation. I was skeptical that a fit could help my issue, and questioned the initial cost, but I was willing to try anything that might help. The experience was a revelation: thorough, meticulous, and focused on solving my issue. Which, as it turned out, WAS fit-related. I never would have found that out without meeting Barry at Cyclologic, and I was absolutely floored at the massive changes in my fit he was suggesting. But I had visual and scientific proof right there in the studio that it was the correct thing to do, so I put my faith in Barry’s fit, and I rode on what felt like a kid’s bike for the next month.
I’d love to report that I was transformed from a 50+ masters cat 4 into a sleek cat 2, hunting his next upgrade, but unfortunately, I’m still more sow’s ear than silk purse. BUT, my injury has, for the most part, HEALED. It’s a pressure-sensitive injury, and it’s impossible to completely remove pressure, but I now perch my weight on the proper part of my anatomy, and can complete multiple, consecutive long-mile days in the saddle. Before my fit, a 200 mile week would be pure fantasy, but I’ve done several weeks like that since. I’m more comfortable, more powerful, and more aerodynamic with less pain than ever before. I’m tracking this year for over 6000 road mies, which would be my highest volume year ever. It would not have happened without the fit I received from Barry at Cyclologic. Simply cannot recommend them more highly.
And that initial cost? Best money I’ve ever spent.
